Lenten Prayer

Lenten Prayer for Spiritual Renewal

God, heavenly Father, look upon me and hear my prayer during this holy Season of Lent. By the good works You inspire, help me to discipline my body and to be renewed in spirit. Without You I can do nothing. By Your Spirit help me to know what is right and to be eager in doing Your will.

Teach me to find new life through penance. Keep me from sin, and help me liveby Your commandment of love. God of love, bring me back to You. Send Your Spirit to make me strongin faith and active in good works. May my acts of penance bring me Your forgiveness, open my heart to Your love, and prepare me for the coming feast of the Resurrection of Jesus.

Lord, during this Lenten Season, nourish me with Your Word of life and make me one with You in love and prayer. Fill my heart with Your loveand keep me faithful to the Gospel of Christ. Give me the grace to rise above my human weakness.Give me new life by Your Sacraments, especially the Mass.

Father, our source of life, I reach out with joy to grasp Your hand; let me walk more readily in Your ways. Guide me in Your gentle mercy, for left to myself I cannot do Your Will.

Father of love, source of all blessings, help me to pass from my old life of sin to the new life of grace. Prepare me for the glory of Your Kingdom.

I ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever.Amen.

Hmmm...I think I know which account is accurate

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/02/18/pelosi-pope-meeting-minds/

Pelosi, Pope Have No Meeting of the Minds

It would appear from the two statements issued by the Vatican and the speaker's office that Nancy Pelosi and Pope Benedict did not share the same views during her audience with the pontiff.

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican Wednesday morning, but may not have had a meeting of the minds if the two statements from their offices are any indication.

No journalists were at the 15-minute encounter and the Vatican and the speaker's offices have not released any photos. However, according to their statements it appears the pope and the politician attended two different get-togethers.

"His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church's consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoins all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development," the Vatican wrote, having released the statement moments before the two met.

Several hours later, Pelosi's office gave her take on the tete-a-tete.

"It is with great joy that my husband, Paul, and I met with his Holiness, Pope Benedict XVI today," Pelosi said in a statement released hours after the meeting. "In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the Church's leadership in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming, as well as the Holy Father's dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel. I was proud to show his Holiness a photograph of my family's papal visit in the 1950s, as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren."

The pontiff has a long history of urging Catholic politicians to toe the line on abortion, and has said that those who don't shouldn't take communion. Pelosi supports abortion rights and says she's never been denied communion at her church in San Francisco.

In 2002, the Vatican issued a doctrinal note on "The Participation of Catholics in Political Life," which states rather succinctly that politicians who profess to be Catholic have a "grave and clear obligation" to oppose any law that attacks human life.

That note was approved by John Paul II but signed by none other than Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger. He's now the pope.

The speaker does not share that belief, and even got into a verbal slugfest with American bishops last August after her statements on a news program about the Church's view of when life begins.

"I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And St. Augustine said at three months, we don't know. The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on the woman's right to choose," she said at the time on NBC's "Meet the Press."

She then added that the Church has only held the view for 50 years or so that life begins at conception. The remarks earned her widespread corrections by Catholic clerics.

FOX News' Greg Burke contributed to this report.

A few days ago we were having a conversation and Jacob was playing nearby. I told my husband something to which Jacob replied.......
"(sucking wind)HHH....OH MY GOSH!". It was hilarious, we've never heard him say anything like this before. It's his new montra, he says it all the time! :)

This past Sunday at mass Jacob made a rather loud sound with his bootie (if you know what I mean). The pew vibrated. It was so funny, but we didn't want him to see us laughing or else he would have done it over and over again.

Ok, go to the Riggs blog and read everybody else's then, post one of your own!

Vanessa at "Mommy's Little Blessings" posted 10 random things about Arianna (her daughter from Guatemala) http://mommyslilblessings.blogspot.com/2009/02/10-random-things-about-arianna.htmlwhich I really enjoyed. She didn't tag me, but I've tagged myself :). So.....

10 Random Things about Jacob

1. He is an awesome sleeper. Sometimes at night he even lets us know he's ready for bed. He says his prayers and he's off to sleep....no drama. Sometimes he asks for, "5 minutes?", but goes willingly when 5 minutes are up

2. He sleeps with a hard, pointy plastic dinosoar. We have no idea why, he insists that he "needs" it

3. He loves to drink water. Rarely asks for juice (apple only)

4. He plays ROUGH! He's all boy

5. He flirts with girls! This is hilarious.....usually starts with "Hi"

6. His favorite food is chicken with rice n gravy

7. He likes to follow his Daddy EVERYWHERE...usually right on his heels

8. He has 2 Nonnie's

9. He is FULLY potty trained YIPEE! (I guess he is, no accident in 3 weeks)

10. He LOVES to snuggle with Daddy and Mommy

I don't think I can tag anyone since I tagged myself :)

THE SPONGE

I've always said and thought that I didn't like Sponge Bob, but actually, I've never watched an entire episode. Am I judging Bob unfairly?
Check out what Danielle Bean has to say about it (and much more) here: http://insidecatholic.com/Joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5377&Itemid=48

Abby

Abby is back in the hospital and is suffering some serious complications due to the chemo she is receiving for Lukemia. PLEASE pray for this precious child and her family.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it knownthat any one who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly unto you,O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful;O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Laughter Lives Tuesday

My brother and sister-in-law have 6 year old twin boys (Bless their souls). A couple of years ago she decided it was time to start bringing them to church (again, bless her soul). Each parent was holding a 3 year old boy when they started talking to each other.
“Hey bubba see the cowboy?” says one to the other.
Response from his brother, “Yeah, bubbie I see that cowboy”.
Of course, they WERE NOT whispering.
Then a little louder, “Mamma there’s a cowboy in here”. Shhhh says mom.
Louder this time, “but mommy cowboys aren’t supposed to be at church”….”yeah mom” says his brother.
At a certain point in the ceremony we greet others around us. Well, when mom and dad turned around they saw an elderly lady behind them with a BIG FANCY hat on.

Hahaha…I love that story.

Mamma almost LOST IT!

Last night we went over to Jacob's Nannie and Parrain's (Godmother and Godfather)house. They have three boys (the twins are pictured in an earlier post...they were making cookies). We were sitting outside enjoying the beautiful evening and the boys were running around the back yard playing chase and hide n go seek.

I heard a thump, looked up and saw Jacob's head jolt backwards then the rest of his body followed and he fell backwards. It was just behind his Daddy, so he scooped him up and brought him into the house. He was crying so hard and kept asking for me. When I got to him I hugged him for a few seconds, then pulled back to look at his face. He looked fine...no blood, no scratches. Then he blinked and a tear of blood spilled out of his eye. I was terrified and almost passed out. My sister in law took over and wiped his face and applied ice to the area. He calmed down, but started crying again just a few moments later. This time he was crying because he wanted to go back outside to play.

As you can probably see from the pictures he has 3 or 4 tiny scratches just below his eyelashes. He ran into the edge of the bar b que pit. Thank God it didn't have a sharp corner edge!

He insisted on a Thomas bandaid. We told him he couldn't have it on his eye, so
he settled for the center of his forehead....silly boy!

I kind of expected him to wake up with a black eye. These pictures were taken this morning and as you can see he is just fine. THANK GOD!
