Hi/Lo Thursday...on Friday

This post is part of "Hi/Lo Thursday" on the Riggs Family Blog. Check our their blog to read everyone else's "Hi/Lo" posts.

Lo

Jacob had a horrible day at school on Tuesday. He is terrorizing all of his "friends". His teacher wrote a detailed description of his actions and it wasn't pretty. Charles and I were horrified and wondered (although we feel we know...the other kids at school) where he had learned these behaviors. I spoke at length with his peditrician who assured me that this is normal for a 3 year old. His words, "they kida go bi-polar when they turn three". We had a long talk with him and applied some punishment and he's doing much better.

Hi

It's a couple of pictures from yesterday. These kids participated in the walk for life in our town. Awesome!!

Prayer for the Unborn

Heavenly Father, in Your love for us, protect against the wickedness of the devil, those helpless little ones to whom You have given the gift of life.

Touch with pity the hearts of those women pregnant in our world today who are not thinking of motherhood.

Help them to see that the child they carry is made in Your image - as well as theirs - made for eternal life.

Dispel their fear and selfishness and give them true womanly hearts to love their babies and give them birth and all the needed care that a mother can give.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with You and Holy Spirit, One God, forever and ever. Amen.

Jacob is not a big fan of church. He freqently misbehaves, but he tolerates it.....as long as it's ONLY once a week.

A dear friend invited us to a blessing of the baby Jesus from our Nativity scene. It would be our first time attending this blessing ceremony which was on a Sunday afternoon. This particular Sunday morning, my baby boy was rather ummm.....challenging during mass. He was reprimanded which meant he probably didn't get his donut, which makes him rather unhappy.

He woke up from his nap just a few minutes before we were supposed to be at church for the blessing. He announced, "mommy, I want to go bye bye". Perfect, I thought, I put on his shoes and we were off. On the way I recited the names of all his friends that would be there and the closer we got the more excited he got.

As we pulled into the parking lot (we have only attended mass at this particular church once or twice) my sweet boy said, "HEY, THIS IS CHURCH"!!! "I NOT WANT TO GO TO CHURCH"!!! and he started crying. I wasn't about to set foot in that quiet church because I knew he would repeat his little montra at least a hundred times! Maybe we'll get our baby Jesus blessed next year!

Hi/Lo Thursday

This post is part of "Hi/Lo Thursday" on Riggs Family Blog (http://www.riggsfamilyblog.com/):

My hi for this past week was my family. Spending every evening doing what we do. Not having to share them with any other obligation. (I tend to "over commit" my self and my time). Also, getting a "mommy, I love you sooooo much" while my neck was being squeezed.

My lo was putting myself in Abby's parents' place and wishing they weren't there. At the same time this was a hi because I am witnessing great love, prayers and conversions in Abby's name.

Freedom of Choice Act- PRAY NOW!

Congress votes Jan 21 on Freedom of Choice Act...9-days of prayer TO STOP THIS For those of you who do not know, the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) is set to be signed if congress passes it on January 21-22 of 2009.

The FOCA is the next sad chapter in the book of abortion. If made a law, virtually all limitations on abortion will be lifted, which will result in the following:

1) All hospitals, including Catholic hospitals would be required to perform abortions upon request. If this were to happen, some U.S.Bishops have indicated they would consider closing down Catholic hospitals - more then 30% of all hospitals in the United States are Catholic - rather than perform abortions.

2) Partial birth abortions would be legal and have no limitations.

3) All U.S. tax payers would be funding abortions.

4) Parental notification will no longer be required.

5) The number of abortions could increase by as much as 100,000 annually.

As Catholics, as Christians, as anyone who is against the needless killing of innocent children, we must stand as one. We must stop this horrific act before it becomes a law. The Plan : To say a novena (nine days of prayer ) along with fasting, starting on January 11th. For Catholics, the prayer of choice will be the rosary with intentions to stop the FOCA.

For non Catholics, I would ask that you pray your strongest prayers with the same intentions, also for 9 consecutive days. The hope is that this will branch and blossom as to become a global effort with maximum impact.

We have very little time so we all must act fast. Just do three things:
1) Forward this letter on to five or more people
2) Do it TODAY
3) Start the novena on January 11th and pray for nine consecutive days. (Please also fast for at least two days during the novena)

Remember that with God all things are possible and the power of prayer is undeniable. If you are against the senseless killing of defenseless children then the time is now to do something about it!

Please pray for Abby

Abby will be entering the most difficult part of her treatment for the high-risk form of Lukemia she was diagnosed with back in July. Certain genetic complications have put her chance of surviving the treatment at about 20%.

If you don't know about Abby, please read about her condition and her family here:

http://www.riggsfamilyblog.com/2009/01/about-abby.html

It is very difficult to know that a family is going through this, especially since Abby is from Guatemala and just a year older than Jacob. I wonder if we would handle such a situation with the grace and faith that Brent and Michelle have. I, personally, have received many blessings and witnessed many moved to prayer for Abby. Make sure you read Brent's most recent post in which he answers the question, "Does it matter if more people pray for Abby?".(http://www.riggsfamilyblog.com/2009/01/does-it-matter-if-more-people-pray-for.html)

Thank you for your prayers and may Our Heavenly Father continue to bless the Riggs family and all of His children here on Earth.

Inspiration..part 2

***warning...this post may gross out any of you who don't have kids***

Something happened to us last night which made me immediately think of my friend Tonya and a post on her blog about three weeks ago.
The post is here:
http://raisingreign.blogspot.com/2008/12/inspiration.html

We went to dinner last night with friends. We were a little late, so when we got to our table there was a spinich and artichoke appetizer with chips on the table. Well, Jacob's favorite food is anything that can be "dipped", so he dug in. He ate so much of it, I asked the waitress to put it on our bill. I didn't taste it, but I knew it was rich because of the wonderful aroma. We had a nice dinner and Jacob was dozing off on the way home. When we got home we put on his pj's, said his prayers and he was off to sleep.

About 20 minutes later I could hear him coughing. I went in his room to check on him and he was laying in vomit. Daddy took care of the bed and I grabbed Jacob. Poor baby had it in his hair, ears (he had parsley in his ear too), and all over the back of his neck. I knew he needed a bath, but he HATES to wash his hair and I thought that may be too tramatic after what he had just been through. I cleaned him up really good, but he still smelled yucky.

Daddy scooped him up and said I'll take care of that right now. A few minutes later, Jacob came out of our bathroom and I burst out laughing. Daddy had "powdered" him down with baby powder. I don't know if he looked more like a geisha girl or a teenager acting as "grandpa" in the high school play! It did the trick, he smelled like a sweet little baby after that!

I wish I would have taken a picture!! So, Tonya, your sink bath doesn't look so bad anymore, does it?

BTW, he's feeling fine today, it must have been too much spinach and cheese!

Happy New Year!

We are home from our trip to Colorado. We had a great time, but its good to be home. Why did the drive there seem so much shorter than the drive home? We were in the van about 21 hours both ways.

Jacob really didn't enjoy the cold weather. It was in the teens most of the days we were there. One day, though, it got up into the lower 40's and the boys enjoyed playing in the snow. Jacob was so excited to tell me that he was chasing his daddy and he caught him! They made snow angels and pelted each other with snowballs.

Christmas morning was fun because this year Jacob, "got it". Santa brought him that big chew chew train he asked for. He had some big boys to help him open his gifts too. We brought our nephew, Devin, with us and our nephew, Gavin, lives just down the street from Nonnie.

Below are some pictures of our trip. Enjoy
